Idol rehash: Cue the Daughtry, Blake’s coming home

Ear Candy would like to send a big congrats to Blake Lewis for being a great performer and competitor on American Idol. You represented yourself and Seattle well and I think everyone is pretty proud of you.
With said, everyone knows finsihing second on Idol isn’t too bad of a spot to be in. For example, there’s the creepy Chris Daughtry who is a recording star and didn’t finish as the winner of AI. Then there are the other examples such as Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Kathryn McPhee and Justin Guarini … er, wait scratch that last one.

Jordin Sparks wins ‘American Idol’

Winning American Idol could start Jordin Sparks on an impressive career.
America’s embrace of her recalls clinches with previous victors Kelly Clarkson
and Carrie Underwood, who have delivered best-selling CDs and collected
Grammys.

Sparks defeated runner-up Blake Lewis on Wednesday night, and host Ryan
Seacrest revealed that 74 million votes had been cast.

“Thank you so much for everything,” Sparks said. “Mom, Dad, I love you.”

“American Idol” finally became what its judges have always insisted it is,
a singing competition, as Jordin Sparks won the sixth-season crown over Blake
Lewis on Wednesday night before a capacity audience at Hollywood’s Kodak
Theater and millions of Fox TV viewers at home.

“Mom, Dad, I love you,” Sparks, at 17 the youngest winner to date, said
tearfully after getting a bear hug from Lewis, 25.

Jordin Sparks Beats Blake Lewis to Become Sixth `American Idol’

May 24 (Bloomberg) — Jordin Sparks became the youngest
“American Idol'' at 17 years old, defeating Blake Lewis to win
the sixth season of the nationwide singing contest. Sparks, a high school student from Glendale, Arizona, beat
Lewis after viewers cast 74 million votes by telephone and text
message. “American Idol'' enabled the Fox network to win this
year's prime-time television ratings race in the 18-to-49 age
group that sets national advertising rates. Among all viewers,
Fox, a division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., was second
behind CBS. Fox's decision to air the show once a year has
helped make it the most-watched show for four seasons.
