TV Review: American Idol 6 - “Idol Gives Back”

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

charity show. For over two months Ryan has crowed on and on about how it's going to be a star-studded spectacular, how there are going to be so many awesome celebrities appearing on the show, and that there will be a lot of great performances.
After watching the 2-hour snorefest, I have one word for Mr. Seacrest: Baloney.
I feel sorry for the poor saps in the audience who thought they would see performers like Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and Annie Lennox live on stage, the joke was on them. Most of the "real" artists performed in the Walt Disney Music Hall (not where the judges and contestants were). Hell, Celine's "historical performance" with Elvis was one big joke. Oooooh, behold the magic of blue-screen technology! Please. Twenty years ago Paula Abdul danced with a cartoon cat. This was more or less the same thing.

‘Idol’ plays nice on night devoted to charity

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Not that she had anything to worry about, but Melinda Doolittle can rest easy for another week on “American Idol.”
COMMENTARY
By By Craig Berman
MSNBC contributor
“American Idol” spent two hours on Wednesday soliciting money for charity. One early beneficiary was this week’s lowest vote-getter.
Faced with the prospect of marring a feel-good episode with the heartless booting of one of the six “Idol” finalists, the show decided to take a pass on delivering bad news. One by one, from Melinda Doolittle to Blake Lewis to Phil Stacey to LaKisha Jones to Chris Richardson to Jordin Sparks, each contestant was told that they were safe.

Rosie’s rants and ratings

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

helped boost ratings, up 17% overall. Here’s who felt the sting of the show’s O’Donnell-fueled controversies.
ROSIE LEAVING:
A new show for O’Donnell on the horizon?
September

O’Donnell slammed Lindsay Lohan for her behavior on the set of
Georgia Rule
Lohan’s behavior “was unacceptable. It’s not like she was doing
Dumb & Dumber 2
. It’s a Jane Fonda movie! Be early! I saw (Lohan) stumbling around a club drunk (once), and her mother was going, ‘She’s all right!’ I can say this from experience: It’s hard to be famous, and she’s not doing it well at this point. But she’ll get into rehab, take care of the eating disorder, and be all better in two years and have a huge comeback.”

April 25, 2007 - So Rosie O’Donnell is ditching “The View,” and—poof!—suddenly Sanjaya, Alec Baldwin and the rest suddenly disappear from sight. The cable outlets went so far as to label it “Breaking News”—and O’Donnell immediately mocked them for it. In fact, that kind of media hyperventilating probably contributed to her quick exit. The outspoken talk-show host always said she’d stay with the show only for a year and take her temperature again then. “People are like, ‘You have a one-year deal. Why?’”

Rosie O’Donnell exits ‘The View’

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

“The View” without Rosie O’Donnell? That’s like thunder without lightning. Sturm without Drang. Sanjaya without a weird hairdo. How
will
the daytime world adjust?
O’Donnell announced on Wednesday’s edition of “The View” that she’s leaving behind her day-to-day hosting duties as of June. But she assured the audience that she’s leaving of her own accord, and not being shoved out the door by Barbara Walters or ABC executives after a eight months of relentless controversy.
