Broadway producers have wasted no time in scooping up “American Idol” contestants. No sooner does each season end than the theater negotiations begin.
But N.C. Theatre producer William Jones is quicker. The day after LaKisha Jones sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Broadway’s “Dreamgirls” on “Idol” last month, Jones says, he was on the phone putting in dibs for her to play Effie in “Dreamgirls” at N.C. Theatre.

, Special to the Times Union First published: Thursday, March 15, 2007 Chris Daughtry cruised into last season’s “American Idol” finals as the front-runner. But then he got voted off.
“It was definitely a shock to me at that moment in time,” Daughtry said in a recent phone interview. “You’re in a contest and you get to a point where you want to win it. That’s why you got in it. And then when that didn’t happen, it was like, ‘Oh.’ So you have to kind of rethink your game plan a little bit.”

‘American Idol’ Has ‘Massive Impact’ On Radio Airplay

According to Mediabase statistics, “American Idol” has had a massive impact on radio airplay since its debut six years ago. The Mega-hit Fox television show is now responsible for generating more than six million radio spins. The most-played “Idols” are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, as the season one and four winners have racked up four million plus radio spins between them. Others who have become household names include Fantasia, Josh Gracin, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson.

A look at the current scorecard shows that the ladies from “Idol” are faring a lot better than the guys, with the exception of Daughtry.
Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson’s third CD is due out this spring.

Special Clay Aiken Concert Sold Out

RALEIGH -  A special Clay Aiken concert to be held in Raleigh on March 31st has sold out, according to the Cardinal Club where the event is being held.
The special concert called "Champions of Change" will benefit Clay Aiken’s charity, the Bubel Aiken Foundation which helps sponsor programs for children with disabilities.
According to the concert poster, the concert "will provide scholarships for children with special needs to be included in programs and activities that will allow them to learn and play and have fun."
